Does anyone here have experience with this engine? I'm putting one into a Bronco II. It's under 500lbs and has better performance ratings than the Perkins and Mitsubishi diesels from the 80's. I'd really be interested in some tuning ideas to get a little more power. I'm fitting the stock FM146 trans to it right now and hope to be on the road by Feb. Any good input would be appreciated.

Injector pump is a Stanadyne DB2 249-4762. The guy at Wisconsin Total Power said it could run on jet fuel, something about tolerances and lubrication requirements. He also suggested that I stick with highway diesel and not off-road or veggie oil, not sure why. I attached a pic of the pump. I have new injectors and plugs on the way. Also, I am estimating the weight because I removed the cast iron SAE adapter and flywheel from the block, combined they probably weigh about 60lbs. I am fitting the BII starter and flywheel by using a crankshaft spacer and a piece of 1/2" steel plate to bolt the tranny to. That should be a forty pound or so loss. I'll post more pics when I get that stuff done. The other pic is the motor when how it came to me "running when pulled". I had the internals checked out and everything was in good shape so I just cleaned it up, re-seated the valves and honed the cylinders. only thing I'm not sure about is the pump.

I know this thread is old. But I have the same engine on my sa 300. Can you tell me where you got your injection pump and injectors from? I’m surfing and can’t find anything.

He probably suggested stick with highway diesel for seal reasons. Veggie oil/bio diesel tends to break down the old style rubber seals so viton (I think thats what they're called) seals are required. The jet fuel can't be run for long because of the lack of lubricity it provides.

It looks to be a rotary style pump. http://www.oliverdiesel.com/tech/howdb2pumpworks.htm this site explains the operation of the pump.

These style pumps (albeit in 8 Cyl configuration) were used on GM 6.2 and early 6.5 and Ford 6.9 and 7.3 IDI engines.
