The new website isn't up yet however it is rumored on here that this company's long awaited adapter is finalized and ready to start shipping!! Its supposed to turn the rear of a MB inline 5 cyl to a Chevy pattern.

not to be rude but that is not a bad price. when you are only building one or two at a time it costs alot to make. you have to measure it up or pay to have it measured up.. then programmed on auto cad, then machined...

I can guarantee you he is not making very much off of that $950.

I have built an OM617 to 700R4 adapter and it is all cad'd, but I would charge more than that for sure.

When I talked to them about the adapter, they said 2/3 of the price is from the custom flywheel they had made with the kit. He also told me that he would sell me just the adapter plate when they were ready for public sales.

They are ready for public sales, I believe he ordered in about 25 sets of the adapters...

It's a bit of a catch 22, if they could have sold them for $600 and made stacks of them then far more people could justify it.

I'm a bit amazed that it took so long to come out, several years, the actual mounting plate should be simple to replicate, and a $600+ flywheel? There is a marketing theory that if you charge more people think they are getting a better product, I tried to contact this company several times a couple years back and couldn't get a return call or email, I was less than impressed.

I've looked into engine adaptors for several other vehicle/engine combination and this is breaking new ground price wise.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight... engines all cost the same at pick-n-pull, if 4x4 labs could have devoloped this in less than half a decade and sold it for a reasonable price they could have sold me 3, but in the mean time I figured out how to do it myself with factory parts

I haven't seen the kit in person yet but have seen the photos. Correct that it is a custom flywheel included as well. Uses a Ford V10 starter that is much smaller, complete with correct tooth ring (obviously). Everything is in Cad and machined.. 4x4Labs are perfectionists, their steering systems are literally perfect / better than Toyota OEM as far as ackerman etc. So despite the price tag I think it will be worth it. Also like anything in 4WD I suspect despite the price he has a small mark up like everyone else. Luke is a very fair guy. I have also done business with him for nearly 10 years and never once felt burned, skimped, or in any other way cheated, ever... I've probably run at least 2-3 sets of their steering alone... It is hands down the best stuff on the Toyota market at least, and I think that says something...

It's pretty simple really, OM616s and OM617s litter the junkyard around here, use the 4 cylinder flywheel rebalanced to match the flex plate off your OM617, keep the MBZ starter and bell housing, mate your transmission to said bell housing, pilot bearing adapted as needed, whole deal should cost me $500 at pick-n-pull and a few hundred in new parts

I'm really not trying to bash 4x4 labs, I realize they make a great product and at times I forget how much I have adapted and learned over the years, if you don't have the experience then their price isn't terrible, I have a hard time spending twice the price of everything else on 2 parts.

Its not that simple, well it is but not the way you put it........

You dont adapt anything using any MBZ parts, you adapt your stuff to the MBZ crank bolt holes and then make an adaptor plate to bolt the trans to the engine.

These 617's use an "adaptor plate" to bolt the trans to the engine just like the 4BT's and 6BT's do, SOOOOOOO you just make your own using steel, aluminum, titanium, whatever..........

Then you use the pilot bearing that goes with said adaped flywheel and away you go!!

Oh and you use the starter that goes with the bellhousing and flywheel that your using (in my case the yota starter and its alot more powerful than it looks)

That MBZ starter looks massive and powerful because of two reasons:

#1 Its direct drive and not gear reduced

    #2 Its OLD technology!!!!!!

The Yota gear reduction starters are just as powerful if not more powerful because they use super strong magnets and are gear reduced.

i built my own adapter plate, first i got the flywheel setup using the mazda flywheel for the outer part(clutch) and i used a benz 240d flywheel for the inner part (starter and crank) once i had my pilot bearing setup i just sat the trans ontop of the engine and traced out my holes on a 1/2" plate of aluminum. drilled and tapped everything and it works great!

Thanks for rewording what I said, old technology? Gear reduction works great, but really, your "old technology" is my "tried and true all the same on everything rebuilt in the field and got me home" technology, I've had these poop out on me, take it apart, clean it up, reassemble, and forgot to replace it, still working 3 years later

i would have changed my starter if i used a different flywheel on the motor, but i didn't have to so i just stuck with what i had already fitting together.
