    Default ICs and oil coolers?

OK I'm used to working with Volvo turbo gas motors and we like to run BIG oil coolers. So on these motors is an oil cooler a good idea? I figure it probably won't hurt as I'm in a moderate climate and I'll be using the truck for tow/haul purposes. I'm mostly just asking to make sure there's not some special reason that I shouldn't run one. Next I guess is the IC. I've got some Volvo 2/7 series IC laying around that are about right to fit my radiator core support, but I'm not sure if they'd work well on one of these motors. These are usually good for about 20psi max boost before you get into blowout issues. How much boost does a 4BD1 or 2 run stock? As the NPR IC's are a sought after upgrade for the Volvo guys I'm a little leery of the opposite swap. But I do need to keep it thin(1-2" thick core would be great) and I'd like to fit it into a 27" wide core support without cutting up the support. Got any good ideas as to where to look for ICs that aren't designed to be mounted behind the mouth of a "catfish"? Thanks

These engines are fitted with an effective oil cooler on the right hand side of the block. It uses the engine coolant.

The 4BD1T was not fitted with an intercooler. They had various turbos from IHI or Garrett, depending upon the year, but none (in stock form) produced boost pressure that particularly warranted an intercooler.

However when tuned up an intercooler will help. Boost pressure will depend on what turbo you choose and how much the fuel is turned up.
