Question timing the start of delivery

I try to time the start of delivery on a ISUZU 4BD2T, follow the procedure in the manual, & when I fire it up it smoke like to much advance or fuel(black heavy smoke). And I could never find the spot where the fuel stop from leaking.
I move the IP to max advance, = still leaking at the #1 barrel(yes I had the delivery valve ,barrel, spring out). Now the headache, after bring it back where it was, it still smoke like overfuel.
Any one did it with success?

How did that go for you? Dougal went on holiday. He says he won't be back for 6 to 7 weeks. I'm sure he'll look in though.

    Default Pump Timing

Sounds like you forgot to release the shutoff lever to the RUN position either by leaving switched ON or Disconnect the cable . The Plungers have slots that register with ports in the barrels at shutoff to stop Injection and will allow low pressure Leakage [NoDelivery Valve Spring and Spindle ].

If I get that right, the switch has to be on(run position) when I move the IP?
Is it possible for the plunger to come out of sync with the rack when you pull the delivery valve & holder?
If you know more let me know.

Yes that is correct--Run--position ,DO NOT pull tte Deliveryvalve Body out Only the spring and spindle , reinstall the Holder and Tighten to 5-10 Ft.lbs during Timing set then reinstall with New Brass Gasket and O-ring.

    Default delivery valve

I love the "DO NOT PULL THE VALVE BODY" If there was a warning in the shop manual at least!!!
Yep the valve body came along with the delivery valve & seat. It did not come all the way out, may be at the same height as the top of the pump & fall back in, not knowing that there was a slot & port I did not check any further, but it was out of sync & heavy smoke. I pull it all out & then saw the slot & port, line it up & back together, now # 1 is not pumping fuel with the engine running!!!!
I re-use the same copper washer????
    would that be enough????
    bring it on PLS wrench
