Talking 4BT in a 1947 Ford 1.t Ton Dually... I got the cab mounted!

Hey guys.... just thought I would share my milestone with you. Not that its that big of a deal, but I got the cab mounted for the 'mock-mount' before I cut up the floor and firewall etc. Feel free to view and ask questions, or just bask in the glory with me!

1947 Ford 1.5 Ton Dually 'Heavy' (They didnt have the F-series yet)
    5.83 / 8.10 Rear Vacuum select 2-speed rear axle
    4BT Cummins
To be outfitted with a ZF S542 and aftermarket overdrive for a .53 final drive
(Got to offset the 5.83 rear end ratio...and I didnt want to part with it)

    Enjoy!

i'm likin this build A LOT as well. I'd love to modernize an old truck like that. I wish there were more older crew cab or extended cab trucks, i'm not a huge standard cab fan, but i may have to do it anyways down the road

My very first vehicle was a 47 ford pickup with a flat head v8 back in 82, but mine never ran. Very cool truck.

What auxiliary overdrive are you using? i have been thinking about a Brownline behind the ZF for the 53 Stude.Anyone have any experience with using one.

Wanted reliability, braking, steering, and ride control/quality for actually being able to use the vehicle on the highway. This truck WILL be restored under the intent of a daily driver that is capable of hauling a car trailer to and from different states. I didnt want to have non-synch'd tranny, non-boosted brakes, non-updated suspension/bearings, toe etc etc and then try to stop and control it doing 75 mph weighing in at 6000 lbs. Safety and relaiblity were the main reasons. Once this buildup is done, my 2007 F-150 will be sold for i have no reason to keep it except loose my arse on gas money. Theres nothing that the 'old' truck wont be able to do that my F-150 could. I'll go by a nice 4x4 sport car for the winter and drive the truck 24/7 during the summer months. (it is nice to have a reliable diesel motor, independent front suspension with 13" disc brakes that are boosted, SHOCK ABSORBERS) etc etc etc that and I can readily find any parts in a matter of seconds anywhere.

    Default Both Fenders mocked up

Just a continuance...... hopefully moderators are okay with me constantly updating this thread as I finalize the mock-up and start the disassembly of the entire chassis/motor for paint and refreshening and then the full on painted assembly again. But to no further avail and sorry again as this thread will eventually have a long long load time.

Couldnt ask for a better motor fit. Plenty of room to put a radiator as well as an air to air intercooler.

I really didnt indulge so here is a full list of construction items on this build:

    1947 Ford 1.5 Ton Dually Cab/doors/fenders/hood
    1993 P-30 Chassis
    --Power Front 13" Disc Brakes
--Power rear 13.5 Drum brakes on 4.10 Dually rear end
    --Independent Front suspension
    --Hyrdro Boosted Steering and Brakes

    - It is currently 3" to tall such that I wont be able to drive it out of my garage anymore, thus the entire chassis will be dropped 4 to 5" and will then be accompanied by Level Command II air suspension to drive out of the garage, flip the onboard compressor, and raise the truck back up to original height. (Side-Side leveling and individual air-bag capable)

    Cummins 4BT
-To be air-air intercooled with an eventual HX35 Turbo
    --New Injectors

    ZF-S542 Trans
-Yet to be fully decided and purchased, may opt for the NV4500

Aftermarktet overdrive for gear splitting capablilities.

Will be blue in nature and follow this cab paint design.....

Default Got the bad boy outside in full dress

Almost complete with measurements and the full mock up before dissasembly/sanding/painting/new sheet metal/trans etc etc etc etc.... It BARELY fit out of my garage which from floor to frame was 83.375" and the truck height was 83.50"..... had to take a few pounds of air out of the tires.... (cannot wait to get the air suspension on it)

    Default Garage door

I had to actually had to take the garage door off the truck (you know the little pull string on your garage door opener) to get the extra .25 of clearance needed) It scraped the rubber/vinyl .50 strip that goes around the wood frame for insulation/waterproofing. Had to take out a few psi too (cant wait for the air bag suspension)

    Default Stay Tuned

Stay tuned guys..... the next 2 weeks will see leaps and bounds in progress as I will hopefully have a complete and running chassis minus brake/steering lines as I'll finish chassis and powertrain work and begin to move to the body work. Major pictorial progress to come in the next 2 weeks.

Reneg8d, I've got the same chassis underneath, otherwise your dodge COE is AWESOME. I've been looking for a good bodied 41-49 Ford COE for quite some time until I came upon the 47 Ford 1.5 Ton. That being said, stick with it, put in a few hours when you can on an actual schedule, when you get frustrated, skip a week and go play, then come back rejuvenated. I a short time you'll go from :
