    Default 4a Cummins Questions

Hey, Im lookin for some information on a cummins A model, 4 cylinder, 2.3. Anybody know anything about these little diesels? Its comming out of a Raspberry picker and i want to put it in my toyota pickup. its a pretty good deal (I think). How would i figure out the type of adapter to use so it will hook up so my 5 speed? Im new to this diesel swap thing and any help would be greatly appreciated. SMITY

they make that same model in a 3,4, and 6cylinder configurations!

I have a couple of 6AT engines that will go into something someday

My 4bt's are my higher up on my priority list, but any way the 4A (normally aspirated) 4AT is with a Turbo! they redline about 3600 rpms. I have a chev adapter and bell housing for one of them and it probably will fit on yours.

the problem you may have is the injection pump!! what type of pump do you have? most have stanadyne. is it a "stationary" application or a throttle control ?

Send some pics of the back half of the engine and that will tell me what will adapt or if it is the same as my 6A application
Cummins still makes the A series engines!!!

Im pretty sure that the injection pump is trottle controled because its comming out of a berry picker. I dont knw if im getting a good deal on this thing or not. im paying 1000$ for the engine, another core with all the parts, alll his spare parts, and all the books. It has 5000 hours on it but i think theyre pretty easy hours, running at the same speed pretty much the whole time. All its had run through it is high sulfer fuel to. Should i overhaul this engine bfore i put it in? Im kinda in a hurry and want my truck back

Here is the spec sheet on the 2300 series. I was looking at it just moments ago.
I'm looking for a 2300T, myself. They cost $7k new. Way beyond my budget, though.
When in doubt, drop back 40 yds, and punt.
When ALL else fails, read the instructions.

Mybe if you post a picture or two of what the back on the engine looks like and some dimensions to go along with it i can check my 6at and see any similarities or differences in the two.
