  1. 329 Deere Turbo

    Performance Discussion
Rule of thumb is 15psi will get you 60% more airflow and power. So I'd expect you'll need 12-15psi to get your power goals. I'd go straight for a HX35. You're close enough in cubic inches, no point reinventing the wheel here. Since it was non-turbo I'd keep it conservative. Set the wastegate...
  2. Rusty the Thiokol Spryte 4bt mechanical/Allison AT545 combo powerplant (long slow build)

Buildup Showcase Threads - All Engines, Vehicles
I've always been curious about those snow-cats. There's someone running winter tours on them about 20 miles from me. I think some of his have Isuzu 2.8 diesels (4JB1). They were used to rescue a whole convoy of 4wd enthusiasts who thought they could beat the incoming snow a few years...
  3. Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel crate engine

    General Discussion
I don't see vehicle class determining the power you need. More the total weight you are moving. Either hauling or towing. Some people run around empty and never haul or tow anything. Others drag a trailer every week.
  4. Weeping Core Plug

    General Discussion
Well I gave it almost a month before saying anything. Just in case I jinxed it. But the pepper has worked 100%. No drips under the vehicle at all. None. It only had one drive to mix it through.
  5. Cummins 4BT look alike engine ID

    General Discussion
That's where I've seen them too. You can tell they're related but not quite the same as normal Cummins. For a while you could find Manitou telehandlers with Cummins engines and New-Holland telehandlers which were built by Manitou with IVECO engines (licensed version of Cummins) Iveco trucks...
  6. Here's the Descrambler

Buildup Showcase Threads - All Engines, Vehicles
It's great to see one of the longest running builds ever is shaking out so well.
  7. 4JB1T Compound Isuzu Rodeo

Buildup Showcase Threads - All Engines, Vehicles
Nice build, I haven't seen anyone run exhaust over the top like that before. How does it run for noise, heat and fuel economy as a daily?
  8. Cummins R2.8 (was Cumming R 2.9)

    General Discussion
I've fixed the thread title. It was hurting my brain.
  9. Is a Garret GT3582R a good choice

    Performance Discussion
Short answer is no. But if you can you link us to turbine and compressor maps we can tell you exactly how much too big it is.
  10. Cummins R2.8 (was Cumming R 2.9)

    General Discussion
The Cummins 2.8 has had a terrible run in the Foton pickups. I hope Cummins have those issues sorted. Many have had engine replacement around the 50,000km mark. Cylinder bore issues I think.
  11. They keep following me home

    Isuzu 4BD1T/2T
Excellent. What's the plan for that? Did you get the matching flywheel inside? They are a lot heavier than the truck flywheels, maybe 3x as heavy and should be a huge improvement at low rpm.
  12. Here's the Descrambler

Buildup Showcase Threads - All Engines, Vehicles
Might be a controversial opinion, but I think with OD that big I'd go straight to 20". 17" would be the pick up to around 33". Reasons being, the bro-dozer crowd means there is excellent rubber choice in 20" and with 37" OD you've still got huge amounts of sidewall for rim protection. Same...
  13. Weeping Core Plug

    General Discussion
Yeah I know. I was expecting this one to be rusted thin on the back. But it was perfect. I was going to buy another but forgot until it was too late (tight window of time to get the engine together and in). Long term the engine is coming out again to replace it. But it won't be this year so...
  14. Weeping Core Plug

    General Discussion
Thanks for chiming in. I have heard that pepper trick before but never tried it myself. It'll be the easiest and quickest to try.
  15. Weeping Core Plug

    General Discussion
I've not heard of that. Any downsides?
  16. Weeping Core Plug

    General Discussion
Short story. I pulled a perfectly good core plug out to see what condition it was in. It was good so I put it back. Now it's weeping and I can't get to it to remove and reseal. What's the best method to seal it up? Straight water in the coolant so it creates some rust or something else?
  17. 4BD1T Turbo Sizing and Performance Prediction.

    Isuzu 4BD1T/2T
Is that a genuine Holset or a knockoff? Post turbo EGT is basically a waste of time. Get a probe in the manifold (or turbo scroll) that reaches the centre of the hot exhaust flow for accurate reads.
  18. Rate my rear driveline angle. Ok, or not ok?

    General Discussion
Universal joints introduce vibration when they're run at an angle, so you run them in pairs at equal angles to cancel out that vibration. So if your T-case to driveshaft is 5 degrees down, you need to run the driveshaft to diff at 5 degrees (either up or down) to keep it running smooth. You...
  19. Bearing failure?

    Axles & Differentials
I'd suspect the start of corrosion. The rollers will be harder and less likely to show any signs.
  20. is there a generic evaporator sensor I can use?

    General Discussion
My last Nissan (EVER) had an electronic thermostat on the evaporator which was triggered by a thermistor and set at 2C (about 36F). I'll bet a trip to a junk-yard should be able to net you these from most newer vehicles. Interestingly, that part of the AC control circuit was missing from every...
