Hey everyone, I’m trying to get some help with some ideas and best mods. I’m currently on my third deployed to Iraq and I’m having Bent Metal Customs in Washington swap my engine over to the 4BTA. I’m hoping when I head home my truck will be finished. Over the next month and a half I will be updating this thread with the progress Bent Metal Customs makes.

The engine I bought is a 2005 4BTA 130HP CPL 1839, I’m planning on using a Dodge Getrag 360 I bought off Ebay with a Ford NP205.

My plan is to get feedback from you guys on the site for ideas on best gauges, axle ratio, fan setups, vacuum for power steering, air conditioning, governor spring, top mount intercooler heater hoses. Ect

Best to start your own new thread on the subject and question. Also include more info on specifics of just what you're talking about.

In addition there's lots of info in the Stickies in the General section and Tech section titled FAQ's that may give you answers.

Finely got to lower the truck, new shocks are 10" instead of 14". I also removed the rear blocks I was using. Spring rate is 550lbs on top and 600lbs on bottom. What a world of difference from stability and getting in and out!

I didn't take a picture with the rear blocks out but you can see the angle of the rear vs front.

Looks like you've suffered a bit of body damage at the back of the cab and front of the bed. Too tall might look cool but generally makes for lousy handling and need for a step ladder to get in. I sometimes wonder how guys get in some of the full sized trucks you see on the road. Is the engine performing better since the rebuild?

Really though, here's some ideas I've been batting around if I come across another cheap f'glass hood for my project before I get to the paint stage. I've always though the car in the first link's scoop was a great idea. I think using tinted plexi like the one in the second link that matches body color is awesome! i love the way the hood cuts show up under the glass.

LMAO yeah I need to figure something out, I was thinking a a hood cowl or something to cover the pulley on the supercharger. I like it sticking out of the hood I just need to keep the rain of the belts.

That chevy has a supercharger off a train! I read a article on it awhile back said it popped the heads off when they hit the throttle the first time it ran.

I'm thinking of adding a radius arm to the back axle, mounted near the pumpkin on the passenger side. I'm hoping it'll work better then a traction bar and be able to fully flex with my leaf springs. When I had the blocks in the back I had real bad axle wrap, it probably isn't as bad now but I want to prevent it completely.

I also should have my 60mm waste gate Monday, so I'm going start working on mounting that under the supercharger as a bypass valve next week. Hopefully I can set the supercharger to max out at 10 psi and the turbo picks up and bypasses it from there. Should free up the power loss caused by the supercharger while lighting the turbo considerably faster.

Steed what is that throttle bellcrank assembly you are running? I've been looking for something and that one looks pretty good!

I like the lowered look better too

There are numerous companies that offer traction bars or anti-wrap bars in the hardcore offroad market. You can often buy just the ends or a complete DIY kit. Or you can just buy a heim joint for the frame mount and 3 shackle bushing kits for the bar's ends. I'm likely going to go with RuffStuff's parts to make mine. I'm running super soft rear springs so wrap will be a major issue without one.

Its running great on the rebuild, haven't taken any new videos yet. Ive been looking for a dyno in the savannah GA. area to take it to.

Right now I'm slowly working on a washer fluid tank, with the axle pushed forward I don't have enough room for the factory one. I have a lot of other things I need to work on, just haven't had a lot of time.

Thanks, this has been a long process making this truck work.... there's been a few times I wanted to torch it and walk away lol

Well today was a good day! I finely finished my washer reservoir! After a year driving around without being able to wash my windows, its such a relief to do it once again

Came out pretty well, it holds a little over 1.5 gallons, bolts right up like its meant to be there, and uses all the factory electronics.

Crossed my mind, but my EGTs are really low, I cruse around 30-45MPH between 5-650F, 60-75MPH around 800F and my exhaust stays pretty clean unless I floor it from what I can tell. However I picked up a weld in NPT bung just incase for latter on.

I still have work to do on the truck but I am now trying pick up a BMW K1200 Engine for a buggy project I am trying to get together.

I built a new AC/Alternator bracket over the weekend, gets a lot more wrap around them and a little more on the supercharger pulley.

My new alternator is a Delco Remy 24SI, does anyone know how to wire the P terminal (Phase Relay) to a tachometer?

Is that your truck in the readers rides section of Diesel Power this month?

So 8 months after the rebuild I am still getting blow by. I've been getting it since day one, I've figured the rings haven't set in or maybe a valve seal is bad?

There is a very slight nock, sounds like a lifter ticking. I can barely tell its there, a buddy at work pointed it out to me.

There isn't any smoke coming out of the breather tube or oil filler, but you can feel pressure coming out of them. If you set the oil cap back on, it bounces around.

Drives fine and starts up like a champ, doesn't seem to have an issue.

Any ideas?

Have you measured the blow by to see if it is in spec.

Hey steed your smoke and the slight KNOCK are more likely than not fuel related. You probably have an injector that is leaking a bit. you can crack the injector lines one at a time and see which one makes a difference in the white smoke. As for the fluttering oil cap when running its normal their is a lot of stuff moving around in the crankcase causing turbulence.
Nate
BTW, I like your setup and thank you for posting all this info.

Thanks, I don't have any smoke except for excess fuel. .
Ah in one of the forums (I googled supercharged 4bt Tacoma) I had read that you had an intermittent white smoke at idle, that would point to leaky injector/s.

What ever became of your controller?

Nate

Oops looked at the next post after I submitted my reply. Are you still looking for a way to sell the controllers. PM me if you are still looking.

At this point I am not building the controllers, ill reprogram the ones I sold. Maybe in a while I might start them back up. But at this point I don't have the time for them.

Ive been slowly improving the truck, I added a programming port to my controller so I can retune it without removing it.

I also refined my progrmming a bit on the controller. I tracked down one of the engineers who wrote the actuator software for Holset. I have a pretty good understanding on how it works now lol.
