Thanks Steed,
Did you change the title to diesel yet? I am in process of swapping a 4bt into my 2008 Wrangler JKU. I live in Denver Metro area with emission test required. I would like to know if you have any problem registering your truck with diesel. Thanks a gain.
Na not yet, I was going to but colorado springs doesn't have emmisions on gas but they do on diesels. So its kinda pointless to do it right now. But when I talked to the dmv they told me all i needed was a statement of fact, need the form from the dmv saying what i did to the truck. Then go to the state patrol and get a safety inspection and a diesel emmison teat. Then take all that to the dmv and they will change it over.

Good for you, if they don't require emission on gas, you can still keep it registered as a gas engine then. How is the project going so far? any update?
Its comming my biggest problem is my turbo lag. Right now I'm working on supercharging it.

Here's the final drawling of the adapter for the supercharger. I should have it running by the end of the month. From what I read it should flow the same as a hx40, around 850 cfm

today i blew one of my boost elbows

Now heres the scary part!

Do you guys think this could be from revving the motor up with the 4k governor? I figure its either blown seals or high revving the motor is causing blow by, if its blow by is there a oil restricter i should be running?

Wow, you really ripped through that boost elbow, lol.

Would a sudden decrease in boost, while under load, cause turbo over-speeding, which might cause the oil seals to go? That's a ton of oil in the intake so I feel like you would have noticed that much consumption.

Thats a scary amount of oil. Wherever that's coming form, if its in the boost tubes, I'd be concerned about runaway.

Turns out since I've been driving around with that boot iff. I don't have any smoke when I come to a stop light. I thought it might of been a bad injector or something. Maybe I was leaking oil before this boot popped.

Well i have some dumb luck, the turbo is good. turns out the blow by was caused by a restriction in the turbo oil drain. I must have screwed the line up when i made it, my guess is some of the rubber in the line pealed back when i pressed the fitting in, causing the restriction. I had a new line made, and it fixed my smoke at idle and the oil blow by.

Its a lot more pleasant to idle at a light and not see pissed off people looking at me or worried about getting a ticket lol.

Just curious, was that elbow plastic or metal. Must have had some real serious boost to rupture that pipe. If that oil residue is in the intercooler you may want to flush that out. Probably will run a lot better without the oil backup.

Good to hear it's fixed! What made you think to have a new return made?

Its rubber, talking to the local turbo shop it was meant for intake not a charge pipe.
That looks like one of the intake elbows that came with my motor, so I agree with the shop.

Yeah, you need at least 3 ply silicone hoses in the high pressure areas. 5 ply wouldn't hurt. A company called Mandrel Bending Solutions sells the 5 ply stuff on ebay. Not quite as cheap as the 3 ply but darn near bullet proof.

Following this truck closely. Love the build. Get that supercharger on there and show us some crawling. Not too many hardcore wheelers on here, have you done any serious trails since the swap? Interested in how the center of gravity change makes it feel.

Interested in seeing the results of this adventure. Really cool.

I watched some videos on you tube and read a few ricer forms about turbo blow by, i figured since its a new turbo and i only put maybe 1-2000 miles on it. Its a hard to believe its bad, that and ever since day 1 i couldn't get it to smoke smoking when i came to a stop light.

Im so happy its not smoking or leaking oil in my intake anymore, i felt like a real ass sitting at lights smoking like hell. Im surprised i didn't get a ticket.

Anyways I just got my HY-35 in today, man this way smaller then my VGT! I don't want crazy boost like the VGT gives me, I've maxed my 35 PSI gauge a few times but its all in the higher RPM band. Not really sure but i'm assuming 3K plus RPMs. Im hoping the HY-35 gives me more useable boost, then once i get the supercharger on ill be setup as a twin-charger for off the line boost.

Im hoping ill be able to get the HY35 swapped over this weekend. If anyone is interested in my VGT and fleece controller let me know, once i have it off i'm planning on putting it up on ebay together.

The turbo is a Diesel Power Products Vulcan 1(62/70 Turbine) was about $1,200 when i got it
The fleece controller was something like $700

Im planning out putting it up on ebay for $1,200. PM me if any of you guys are interested, if not ill list it on ebay once i have it off, hopefully this weekend.

So good news the turbo blow-by is completely gone. My fuel milage went from 20 to 22 mpg and the only smoke I get is under acceleration. It's funny how a restricted oil drain could cause so many problems. I'm hoping the hy-35 will give me better MPG due to lighting faster. I didn't get everything I ordered to swap the turbos out liked I hoped so ill have to wait until next weekend.

My supercharger adapter just got completed and I should get it in a week or so. I might move my AC compressor to the drivers side and try to mount the charger in its place. If I'm lucky I can do it without cutting the hood.

Even though i got all the pieces to swap my HE351VE out for a HY35W, i couldn't bring my self to do it until i tried to get my own controller working just in-case it the fleece controller was just junk.

I am proud to say i finely figured out how to make my own controller using CAN BUS protocol, i set it up using a 5k OHM POT for 5V. I used it to regulated the volts so i can swap it out for the MAP sensor without changing anything.

So far i make better boost, i can make 5 PSI in first before i shift to second, and 15 before shifting to 3rd depending how i gun it. Defiantly better then the fleece controller.

Its a little messy but i didnt want to make it look nice and keep pulling the wires in and out to test everything.

Here's a picture of my custom controller next to the fleece controller, my controller is on the right. I can have a lot more features with mine as well.
