Hey everyone, I’m trying to get some help with some ideas and best mods. I’m currently on my third deployed to Iraq and I’m having Bent Metal Customs in Washington swap my engine over to the 4BTA. I’m hoping when I head home my truck will be finished. Over the next month and a half I will be updating this thread with the progress Bent Metal Customs makes.

The engine I bought is a 2005 4BTA 130HP CPL 1839, I’m planning on using a Dodge Getrag 360 I bought off Ebay with a Ford NP205.

My plan is to get feedback from you guys on the site for ideas on best gauges, axle ratio, fan setups, vacuum for power steering, air conditioning, governor spring, top mount intercooler heater hoses. Ect

Thanks, this will be my 4th deployment. I have 3 deployments in Iraq and this is going to be my first deployment in Afghanistan. After this I’ll have 42 months total between both countries.

I got bored at work so I figured I would attempt to post videos of my truck, figured it out this time! My droid doesn’t like a lot of things moving so the video is pretty shaky.

First start after my oil pressure lines were leaking, hard a hard time starting it again with better lines but it fires up every time now!

Not sure that steed is in the country. He was being deployed to Afghanistan. If you look at post #101 in this article you'll have the answer to your questions. Be aware that turbo set up is not for the faint of heart. It's about the cost of an engine. Sprectre turbo is around $1700 and the Fleece controller $625.

Im still here, i deploy on the 31st for 9 months.

here is the link for the Specter Turbo's i have the Vulcan 1 (Regular Price: $1,899.99 DPP Sale Price: $1,680.75)
http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/p-6738-dpp-spectre-vgt-turbo-075-67l-cummins.aspx

My truck still only idles so I can’t tell you how well this turbo is going to work, with big injector’s, fuel plate, performance cam, timing and correct tune on the controller I’m pretty sure it’s going to work out really well. But it’s a lot of money to be tossing around with the possibility to be disappointed.

The fleece controller was around $700, I got one the first ones they made, It took a lot of hounding to get it from fleece though.

With any luck im going to pay a shop to finish the work while im gone so hopfully ill be able to drive it next year.

It’s been awhile since I posted, I’m still in Afghanistan and everything so far has been going pretty good.

Unorthodox Customs in Puyallup Wa. Has been knocking out the truck little by little, there work is AWESOME!!!

Here’s some pics of their progress.

Redesigned the sifters, they said the body wouldn’t support the pressure needed to shift, so they made stronger support for them. Pretty bad ass shifter linkage and twin sticks.

Over all there work is pretty awesome!
Ill keep updating this with their progress, hopefully a few more months and ill be heading back to the states.

Thanks, I’m a 29E Electronic Warfare Sergeant; I attack the enemy using the electromagnetic spectrum.
Right now the Unorthodox Customs is waiting for Battlement Fab to finish up on the Links for the suspension, it’s going to be pretty sweet. Hopefully soon Unorthodox Customs will finish the suspension and ill post some more pics.

Since I had a little money burning a hole in my pocket I ended up ordering some performance upgrades from MG Diesel Power
Bosch 7x.010” 148* SAC Injectors
Bosch -24 delivery valves
AFC Kit
4K Governor spring
#10 fuel plate

Total cost was $710 shipped, figured it was a pretty sweet deal. It should push me close to 300HP if I’m lucky. Now still debating if I want to pick up a Cam, I’ve read online some people like them some don’t. I won’t be home for awhile so I have time to think about it.

not really, hopefully at the end of the month the suspension should be done or close to.
I found out I have orders to Fairbanks Alaska in Nov. so I’m looking for parts to help the 4BT out in the winter. I ordered the power cable for my block heater and a 150watt immersion heater for the oil pan. I am also looking into new lights and lockers

Diesel fired coolant heaters are awesome in the winter!!! Look into either an Espar or Wabasto. I have installed tons of Espar's on 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks, they work awesome.

Man, going from the hot sands of Arabia to the frozen tundra of Alaska. You're certainly getting your temperature extremes. Fairbanks probably won't be the greatest place for a diesel in winter. Gets a tad cold up there. I believe Cummins has had the oil pan heater since the 4bt was designed. Believe all the oil pans have the plug for it. Even uses the same power cord as the block heater. You're certainly going to need both. Going to need some super winterized fuel to keep it from gelling up there. Might have to throw a little jet fuel in the tank. Are you thinking about driving the truck up. Would be quite a shake down trip.

I am also planning on getting a 12volt heating pad and wrap it around my fuel and water seperator, the wrap it in some pipe insulation. I figure because its placed at the end of the bed all the water getting picked up by the tires might freeze on the filter and cause problems.

Right now my plan is to take the ferry from Seattle to Haines Alaska, the drive to from Haines to fairbanks is around 700 miles. The Army can still change my orders but im hoping they dont. Planing on alot of snowboarding and Ice diving once i get up there.

I didn't realize your truck is in Grand Junction. I would like to get a look at if possible.

#189 ·
I like how the transmission shifter was moved back. How does the side to side movement feel?

#190 ·
I am still in Afghanistan, the guys at unorthodox customs said it hits all 5 gears and reverse real easy and it has a pretty short throw. From now until May the truck should really be coming together, ill keep posting pics of their progress. I should be back in the states sometime around the end of the summer. Once im back ill get a dyno of the stock setup then all the fuel upgrades as well as a dB meter before and after some sound deadening.

Suspension is coming along

The issue Unorthodox Customs is running into now is the front axle is pretty short. So the coil overs (PR2514-COHRS) are to big and to long to mount on top of the axle. There trying to figure out another way to mount them or i might have to find a smaller and shorter Coil over

Came home alittle early from Afghanistan so Ive been able to put some work into the truck while its ben in the shop.

Mounted the ARB compressor with the airdog fuel pump.

Tapped an NPT adapter so I can use the Toyota coolant temp sensor

Mounted my fuel and oil pressure sensor, the viewing location isnt the best. But it still looks pretty awesome
