I am in the start of a build. I have posted before about my 1500 I have a 4bd1t in. I run that everyday to work. 30 psi boost. Hx30 turbo. Fuel screw and rack limiter backed out but I am now starting another build with one for a 1999 suburban. I bought two 4bd1t engines one a 1992 the other like a 1986 I believe. Both need work. The one in my truck is a 89 model. I love these engines. I am a diesel mechanic by trade. I hope and plan to build this engine even better With a bigger custom hx30 turbo, colt custom cam, head studs etc. A question I had . I priced Isuzu parts for them as well as aftermarket parts. Are the aftermarket any good As far as engine liners etc? Izuzu quit making sleeves for these engines. I just checked. Thanks

Hi mate. Plenty of info on pistons/liners in this thread.

They can still be purchased.

Another thought...Could I use the Mahle liners with my used pistons and put new rings on them? I really want to do this rite as this will be a more high H.P. engine.any help appreciated! Thanks

If you want to do it right just buy new pistons. I can't help with suppliers as I'm in Australia.

Genuine Isuzu (from an Isuzu truck dealer) or Mahle-Izumi as the only reliable aftermarket.

Do not piss around with anything else. Especially aftermarket liners.

I am gathering parts. My camshaft is at colt cams getting a custom grind. Need to send out injectors yet. I am getting the nozzles extrude honed 30% over. Just got my motor mounts last week.

How much are they taking off the cam? That’s usually a no-no on these. They are very hard, but it’s only a surface deal. Think like case hardened, I’d imagine. It’s pretty soft underneath and may cause issues.

Not sure, but Jeff owner of colt cams has camshafts down to the science.very knowledgeable I talked to him and he has done one before on a 4bd1t. He contacted the guy he did it for and forwarded the info. He was very happy with the performance added some low end torque which is nice for these engines with their shorter stroke.

Keep us posted! That would be something good for me to be wrong on. Lol.
I talked to Jeff yesterday. He said if it was soft metal the last one he did wouldn’t have held up besides he said he can do a hardness test so will let you know.He has been in business for years so he would know.

My cam just got done.Jeff told me the cam is very hard more harder than some.I am anxious to try it out. The grind is comparable to his big stick cam he makes for the Cummins but a little more duration on intake. Will keep you posted.

I got my ARP head studs. Does anyone have any torque specs? You can find head bolt specs everywhere but not ARP. If there is non I will make some with trial and error.

Only two that I trusted, not sure if there are any new aftermarket that can be trusted these days.
