Has anyone ever bought one from a parts house like NAPA?

I know Advance/Autozone wouldn't carry one....but NAPA usually can get many more parts. I have a Case dealer that is local if I ever needed one, but they are probably pretty pricey.

You can do crossovers at www.napaonline.com to get NAPA's part number.

Looks like they offer it in the Wilson line (this is for the Cummins 3904466 part number, blatant copy and paste operation):

Item#: WIL91295138

Price: $284.00
Core: $83.50

tax and shipping not included

Disclaimer: The stated price may vary from the in store price and may change at anytime.

Attributes:
O.E. Manufacturer: Denso
Voltage: 12 Volt
Type: Gear Reduction
Kilowatt Rating: 2.5 Kw
Rotation: CW
# of Teeth: 13

Once a counterman, always a counterman.. :D
And no, I don't work for them anymore. Honest..

I can get them at NAPA and Carquest just tell them to look it up by the P30 chassis. Same for the water pump, P/S pump, thermostat, tensioner pullye, etc.
Excellent info! Thanks!

Do their parts books actually list a Cummins engine for the P30?
I can't imagine why it would if it wasn't an engine offered from the factory.

Napa dosen't list a starter for the cummins 3.9 in a Chevy P-30 on their website. It may be different if you actually talk to somebody over the phone.

I've had good luck asking for a 91 or 92 P-30 at NAPA... They found the belt for my 4bt in the paper catalogs.

I believe it was a factory option I just tell them it is a P30 and usually the next question they ask is what engine and I tell them a 3.9 Cummins and they find the part in the books, not the computer.

my ebay starter (cummins 3904466) dont fit

after reading the above cross reference sheet I bought a starter off ebay. was said to be compatible with cummins numbers 3904466 as well as 3920643. it is a 2-lug mount but bolt spacing is only 4.75 inches and my adaptor is 5" between lugs. also the hole size in the adapter is larger than the starter requires.

my adaptor is for a ford small block - a zf5 bolts up to it just fine. calling the ebay vendor produced no real satisfaction as they dont know anything about cummins/p30's and only want part numbers. when i bought my 4bt it came with no starter.

did they send me the wrong starter or is my adaptor somehow wrong? i am pretty sure the starter is wrong. anyone recomend a good starter vendor? is 5" between lug bolts right?

thanks!

Just this morning I installed a Wilson starter from Napa, the same one Machman mentioned above, except it was only $199. Bolted right up to my Ford flywheel housing and works fine.

You have the incorrect starter. I just double checked the NAPA number which came back as a Wilson brand starter & is correct. Is your incorrect starter made in China?

I see the ones for Case backhoes on ebay all the time, I wonder if those would work.

I recently changed my starter and used Dixie #246-25112. It is rated at 2.8kW and has an extra grounding lug on the case.

From my supplier at Northern Virginia Supply. I believe he used his account to get it directly from the distributor in Pennsylvania. I bought it 05/21/2007 for $153.20 + $7.66 tax + $12.50 freight = $173.36.

When I bought my Frito truck, the maintenance guy gave me a catalog for a place in Calif that sells parts. It is called Crest Fleet Supply. www.crestfleet.com. I haven't bought from them yet. The starter is item # 181021 in their catalog. Phone # is 800-452-5595, and they sell to individuals.
