It could be done, but the AOD would need some custom work for it to operate properly with the low RPM powerband.
From my previous experience with building an AOD in the past, the stock 302 V8/300 I-6 torque converter stalls too high for a 4BT, a low stall converter for the 351 may be the ticket, but Ford didn't make many 351-AOD combos so availability could be a concern. Custom built torque converter may be the best option.
The shift governer would need some custom work to bring the shifts points down earlier in the RPM band. I had the heaviest facotry governer in mine and on full throttle would rev my old 300-6 unecessarily high.
This is in addition to rebuilding the transmission, as an AOD may not fare well with the high torque of a 4BT.
