4bt vertical exhaust elbow? Case vs Cummins

Looking for a 4bt exhaust elbow for a Case 860 trencher. Case wants about $500 for p.n. A173623.
Found some on eBay for 180. Didn't know if this is a common Cummins part that can be bought cheaper elsewhere. Do you think it is the same as Cummins 3910992?

Attached are three photos...top is the parts book for Case 860 trencher. I need elbow, clamp that attaches it to turbo, and the L bracket (11) could also be replaced. Any leads appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, that is a Cummins part. The 4bt was developed by Case and Cummins. Your part was used on applications with a vertical exhaust system. Cummins part 3910992 is Case part J910992 which lists for $497.35. Wee bit of markup from the one you found for $50. LOL. Hagan Tractor Parts shows Case part A173623 replaces part J910992 or 3910992. They have used ones for $70 but the $50 is a better deal. When Case and Cummins ended their joint venture Case stated renumbering all their parts.

Char, as in the past, thanks again for your tremendous help. I will likely find a 3910992 to purchase for this "Case" application. Any leads on the L bracket in the picture....do you think there is a Cummins part number for this?

I use this same elbow, found it on amazon of all places.

I used the hx35 (1st gen dodge) exhaust clamp.
OK, that little L brace is a Cummins part also. Part number 3903760 or Case part J903760. Like all things Cummins it ain't cheap. Cummins sells it for $133.59. Aftermarket Express sells it for $94.45. If they have them, Hagan Tractor sells the used pipe and bracket set for $100. Have no idea what Case sells it for.
A tight cobra head, is best for flow...
Unfortunately, there is no cobra head made for the HX35W. There is an aftermarket version but it is made for a specific turbo line sold by that company. The stock Cummins cobra head is for 4" plumbing which fits the HX40W. You could adapt that one to the HX35W but the adapter length defeats the purpose. There is also one for the Ford 6.7 diesel but that won't fit either.

Again, I was off topic, not thinking, of an HX35w, my bad...thanks.

Could you take some measurements for me? I need to know how deep it sticks back from the turbo, how tall it is and what size pipe fits it.
The only dimensions I've found on that creature were for the box. Those measurements were 8.43" x 4.69" x 4.17". That would lead me to believe that the front to back depth is around 4". Not sure of the pipe size either. Should note that is item is designed for a vertical muffler. Might contact Cummins. They would have an engineered drawing with exact dimensions.

Front to back is my biggest concern I only have around 4.5” to the firewall from the turbo just want to make sure it would clear before I bought one I’m pretty sure it’s gotta be close

Not sure if this helps you Austin as p# is digit off... this 90 came with my motor and fits my hx30w and my hx30 super, front to back is 5in x 7in long the outlet is 3in od... also has the port for a pyro probe...not sure if this will work for me as I am still working to get the motor mounted... you might look into a cobra head hot pipe.

That helps a ton thank you!! Is the turbo flange 2.75-3? I want to say my turbo is a h1c and that’s about what it measures out to be.
I believe it's 79mm, close to 3.11, that's the size clamp that is required, info obtained from benzforce... check out dieseltuff.com, they have a hot pipe that will fit only 3.25 back spacing...
Perhaps, the FORD P/S cobra head maybe an option, just a thought...

Austin, if you only have about 4.5" that one is sort of ruled out. Needs at least 5" and that is tight. Here may be a couple possibles and I emphasize may be. One is part 4939408. That is a relatively new part but not sure which turbos it fits. It may be for an HE221W which has a different flange than the HX30W/HX35W. Never had one of these so can't really judge how big the overall size is.

Here is another possible. This one came on the HX35W so it would fit an HX30W. It's a simple elbow and may fit your space. It has the clamp flange on both ends so you'd need a section of down pipe with the flange. Part number is 3959261. It's going to be close to 4". Outside of a cobrahead, that is about as tight as the bend can get. Found one source that lists this one for $818.62. Bet they sell a 1000 of those a week. LOL. Another guy was even better at $913.36. That must be some powerful weed those guys are smoking. There's a used one on ebay for $49.99 incl shipping and a brand new one for $49.95 or best offer. From looking at the photo I believe the turbo side flange is half Marmon and the exhaust side if full Marmon but that could be the camera playing tricks on my eyes. I had one of these but no idea where it might be.

That's good to know. On that one there is stud boss near the large end. That could be removed if it was in the way. A photo below shows one installed and he did remove that boss. Also, when mounted the exhaust pipe flange is offset toward the block if the turbo is in normal position. In use the turbo was mounted reversed with the exhaust facing the front. It was designed to be an extremely tight fitting package. That bottom flange is 4.5" OD, 3.5" ID. This part came on an ISDe 6.7 Cummins. May need a small dent in the firewall for clearance. Also this thing is designed for a big exhaust pipe. At least 3.5".
