I dont think I realized it was a longbed. Longbeds look "RIGHT" doing a mans work. (sorry mines a shortbed-dictates of speed and donor frame)
This is a combined 10,000# load. not a 4bt but its coming... still a driver in my frito truck.
the 4.6 gas stroker does okay... that picture is at 3,000' trip was 24,000' of total elevation change in a 400 mile trip(RT)
Changed rear tires to 30"
Left pump unchanged
Pin is still to the steepest side
Road trip to Salida Colorado
Elevation from 4200 to 10500 over the divide, South of Vail & Breckenridge
Up high egt's were as high as 1320 briefly
To much smoke at low r's, Due to low boost.
Down shift, it clears up some (still too smoky for me)
Drove max 65mph, 80 mph twice to pass semi's
Actually wound up going into Oklahoma, as there was a bridge washed out south of La Junta Co
Your fuel mileage is improving. Your smoke is mainly an issue of the altitude. Thinner air means the engine is going to run rich and smoke even with a turbo. I've been in Colorado 5 times with my Ford NA IDI diesels. Any time I was much above 5000' it looked like I was laying a smoke screen and the engine temp would rise to the point that the cooling fan would kick in. Once I got down into heavier air it all went back to normal. Which Unimog did you decide to take home? LOL. I don't want anything that needs a ladder to get into.
For those who are doing nice paint jobs,I have found out the hard way
That you need interfenders.
Bedliner or undercoating of any kind would help
A more permanent solution is interfenders
Here's mine made of 2-ply's of torchdown roofing about .25" thick
I used the existing fender bolts & made hanger brackets
Fastened front & back, Hung over others
Short road trip
Turned fuel pin to near the flattest spot
544 miles 21.56 gal = 25.23 mpg
So I lost 1.29 mpg's
Drove the same as previous
No wind for a change.
Elevation change 3100'
Egt's dropped 40-50*
Less smoke at startup
I have developed an problem I havn't heard of before.
After driving, when parked, on the 4th day , trany fluid leaks out of the fill tube grommet.
Where does this fluid come from?
Is this a sign the tc seal is bad?
Only 8400 miles on every thing.
There are no leaks anywhere else.
I did get my 3925233 balancer installed.
It did help some, But I still have a vib. that starts at 64 mph.
At 80 mph it smooth's right out.
It seems that when I turned the pump, from, 1-turn, to 1.75 vib. worsened.
I need to turn it back down, as I'm in the 22.5 mpg range now,
and quickly get to 1300 egt.
I now have almost 12K on odometer.
Sounds like you might have a bit too much fuel. Your fuel mileage isn't terrible but I suspect you might get it up a little bit with some tuning. Probably not driving 80 MPH though. LOL. You do lose some mileage with the automatic vs a manual. The elevation where you're at can also make the engine run a bit richer which adds to the EGT.
