The PO just about destroyed the bellhousing to adapter threads in my chevy breadvan adapter by putting metric bolts through it. I tried to clean up the 3/8 threads, but there's a lot missing, and I can't torque the bolts down very tight.

Has anyone drilled and tapped the original holes to 7/16 to fix that issue?

Have you considered a Heli-coil? You may be able to drill out to the holes to the heli coil size, then put 3/8ths inch helicoils in and reuse the 3/8ths bolts.

Okay, I ordered a 3/8-16 helicoil kit. It looks like I could still tap it at 7/16 if the helicoil doesn’t hold, but they have pretty good reviews, so we’ll see how good they do

These are by far the best inserts for softer materials when needing to R&R the fasteners will be required, their drawback is the larger diameter for the same size thread.
