I did a search and was surprised to get almost no hits on this topic!

If you had your choice of 4 gauges to monitor a turbo diesel engine, what would they be? There would be 5 gauges total, but fuel has to be one! (using a Jeep YJ as my reference)

If you could have a custom gauge panel, would you have more than 5??? I'm thinking 5 (not including tach or speedometer) is quite a bit of information before the dash starts looking like the controls on a 747, but I'm curious to hear what others think or have done.

Thanks!

This is the Custom Dash in my M37 which is getting close to roll out.
All gauges are VDO Vision Series
Electronic Programmable Speedo, 0-4000 Tach, water temp, Fuel Tank 1, Fuel Tank 2, Boost, Pyro, Volts, Oil Pres.

The Left T Handle is A locking throttle, Center is manual shutdown, Right is emergency air shutdown (runaway).

The 3 rocker switches are ARB Air Lockers for front and rear differentials.

So you're not including speedo or tacho.

Then my four would always be:
Fuel gauge.
Water temp.
Boost.
EGT.

Picking a 5th one for me isn't an easy choice.
The extra ones I've run have always been for setup rather than monitoring. Examples being exhaust backpressure or a second boost/vacuum gauge for checking flow restrictions.

Agreed.

Two pyros might be good.

Pre/post turbo...
