Fully optioned turbo diesel except for the AWD, on the ride home yesterday it managed 64.1 MPG w/AC on @ 80 MPH in ECO MODE.
SPORT MODE shocked me, well beyond my expectations as I was not prepared for when changing lanes, pretty damn thrilled, it appears a Chevy small or big block are no longer needed.
Now for some research, on mods, and yes again, I am shocked by all the aftermarket goodies too...
Pics will be posted later today...

If you mess with that thing I'd think you've lost your mind. Your mileage is near double what Car and Driver got when they tested one. The best they ever got was a little over 40 MPG. Most of the time in the mid 30's and you've got into the mid 60's. The factory rating is only 31-43 MPG. Haven't been smoking some of that funny weed have you? LOL.

The Wife drives a 2014 Mercedes glk230 with the OM 651 diesel and it is a little beast and we have seen solid mid 30's driving it in a spirited fashion over the last 6 years, it is such a nice Road Trip ride.

I suspect I was going bat sh-t crazy, but suspect a tweaked tune after researching online and finding tunes that enhance eco mode for more mpg and makes sport mode go like hell...just not sure yet.

Keep in mind a lot of aftermarket tuners are black-smoke merchants who will fill your DPF with soot and blow up turbos at altitude. If you run without a DPF you'll be smoking under high load anyway.

I'd keep it stock, maybe shut-down EGR if you don't care about warm-up times.

There is a problem with high mile buildup, inside intake on these diesels, which has flap valves in the intake runners to increase low end torque... the buildup causes the rod that holds the flap valves in place to snap and parts entering cylinders...resulting in engine failure.
The fix is all new parts, or delete egr and clean the intake...

You don't need or want to delete EGR. You just turn it off the programming and clean it out. The EGR valves can serve other functions, like preventing turbo bark.

A better approach indeed...
