Hi,
Quick question for the guys farmiliar high boost applications with copper head gaskets . Would a set amount of cylinder liner lip protrusion suffice as a crush/seal area as opposed to an o-ring. Even thinking the upper surface of the liner lip could be machined to a narrower section To provide more positive seal. What are your thoughts?

I should have specified this will be on a Isuzu 4JB1T. Sealing is normally on the partially protruding flange of the liner, anything outside of this is probably going to be problematic, hence why I can’t machine an oring in the block. If I can have a similar width protrusion as an o-ring wire from the liner flange I’m thinking it will seal in the same manner

Sounds like you're looking for a mini-fire ring type modification. Whatever it is would have to be bonded to the head gasket to stay aligned I would think. Not sure I've seen something like that.
