I am not about to pull off my lift pump just to compare....but dadgummit, the Cummins lift pump looks a LOT like a plain ol' small block Chevy fuel pump!

Has anyone compared them side by side? If I have a lift pump fail while on a road trip in the middle of nowhere I sure as hell am going to see if a $15 Chevy fuel pump can be made to work!

The mounting flange shares the same pattern. The "arm" has a different profile, the Cummins is arched higher where as the Chevy is has straight arm.

So can you switch arms?
I have switched arms on old 6 cylinder Chevy pumps and other look alike pumps with different arms. I would think the same technique would work here?

The Cummins pumps are not too much, about $50 from car quest or whever. I have been using 6BT pumps asking for a '89-93 part number... It is the same part number I believe... But that said I intend to switch to the more expensive piston pump. There is a part number that works with VE pumps and is super reliable...
