That maybe what they told you.
My manual only mentions starting the engine, nothing about revving or loading and the measurement is at the lift pump discharge.
That is before the filter so there will be some drop through that.
Everything I have seen on the VE pump it has its own pump internally, including having seen pictures in some threads on these
.

I get the piston pump on and there will be no low pressure to worry about.
More bothered by the burst of black I am seeing at the moment.

Yes, vane pump, can supply fuel if lift pump fails, but the VE tends to live a short life that away.

If you haven't already - intake manifold bolts? Boost gauge fitting? IC leak free?

Pressure tested as above.
Currently making another adaptor to recheck the piping I had off to do the earlier check.

Okay,
Have the new test adaptor, 10psi in the manifold and no leaks.
Back to head scratching and WAG's.
