The are some what the same ,you can take a th400 and make it a th475.They look the same from the outside except a few things ,pan / converter dust shield ,

1.The th475 have straight gears ,have a deep cast trans pan .Was used in older motor home ,p30 ect .The main reason were built for heavy duty service.
2.The th400 came in a K case which was for 4x4 ,have a kick down cable,vac modular.

Does the 475 have a fixed yoke?
Yes, the 475 output yolk is bolted on. BUT you can take a slider yolk from a 400 turbo and swap it out. Some of the 400 turbos also have bolt on yolks. Make sure the o.d. of the slider part of the 400 yolk is the same as your 475. You may want to put a new seal in the transmission tail at the time of the swap. The 400 yolks are available new. Some of the old ones in the wrecking yards have pitted shafts where the seal rides. This will make the seal fail early.
