It is an interesting read, but it's wrong on a lot of counts (it is Wikipedia).

I'm quite sure the Honda 2.2L iCDT-i is an aluminium block and that was released in 2003, beating wikipedias mercedes claim by 3 years.
The english Taxis have been diesel almost for ever. A google of london diesel taxi shows a 1952 diesel model for sale, wiki claims the Fiat Croma in 86 was the first diesel car yet even the japanese were slotting diesels into passenger cars by then.

Well, his parents were Bavarian emigrants to France, and he did return there to go to school. Then set up shop in Paris. So, to call him German isn't wholly inaccurate. Just as someone might call me German, French, Cherokee, or simply confused..
