I'm getting ready to start a diesel swap into my low mileage near mint condition 89 Mazda B2600i 4x4. The motor has been ordered and should be here in 2-3 weeks.

Mitsubishi 4D56T 2.5L diesel with water cooled turbo...

To go into this...

This engine does not use a computer, only one wire is needed to the injection pump.
Hey cool truck and great build thread. Was considering doing this myself but having a hard time finding a manual truck. Will this swap work on an automatic? Also how often do you find yourself in 5th gear driving? As the auto only has the 4.

nice swap . ive done a 2600 and 2600I with benz diesels I really like how the mazda handled compared to other small trucks . ..
i still have a 2600i adapter and custom flywheel for that if someone else wanted to do one ..

Not sure about the auto.
5th gear is used more than any other gear, anything over 45 mpg will be in 5th.
Hi, don't know if you are still around. Was woundering if you have the engine invoice with the model numbers of the engine you got? Thanks Jerry
Update, the truck is still running great. I've got about 55,000 miles on the motor now with no problems at all.

So I finally after all of these years installed an intercooler. This is a factory one from a Mitsubishi Pajero. The install was pretty easy, I just had to bend the two brackets that bolt to the core support a little and make a bracket for the rear to mount to the fire wall.

There is a noticeable power difference and I picked up another 5psi of boost.

I moved the stereo up to the pocket that's right under the air vents. By using a mechless stereo (no CD player) I was able to mount it without removing or modifying the duct work for those vents that's behind the panel. This makes reaching the stereo much easier and safer. I was also able to move my CB up to where the stereo was and reinstall the original pocket underneath the CB....

Good to hear it's still gaining. You should make some more improvements in spool and EGT reduction by putting in a cold air feed to that cone-filter. Warm engine bay air makes a big reduction in air density.

A snorkel is on the near future list. ;)
Nice Pajero gauge cluster, I have an '88.

Installed a snorkel for cooler fresh air to the turbo and obviously deep creek crossings that we have here in Eastern KY.

Correct, those trucks were not offered with a diesel in the US.

Should have it finished up tomorrow. Still have to get shocks and brake lines.
