Anyone know why the shop manual says the push rods MUST be replaced if new lifters are installed? Is that really necessary? I can see where the ball end on the rod might wear in to match the socket on the lifter, worse thing I can see happening if I reuse the old ones is the valves might need adjustment a little earlier than with new ones.

That thread addresses the lifters, not the push rods. I bought new lifters. What do you guys do who build these motors or the 5.9? new push rods are about $40 so no big deal, just wondering if it's really necessary to replace them just because the lifters are new.
