What's the general consensus on this for 4BT fasteners? The red can be a real PITA if you ever want to remove something, I'm thinking blue for something that may have to be changed at some point like lift pump, water pump, etc. and red for something that hopefully will never have to be removed again unless the thing blows up.

My choice for Red or Blue is somewhat based you what you suggest. However I also factor in the 'What if' factor. What if it loosens, what can happen. What if it falls out, what can happen. If my answer is diaster.....then it goes Red.

Red heated to about 465 degrees will come right off. As long as your in a area that can tollerate 465 degrees briefly, your good to go.

No threadlocker at all. The shop manual in procedure 001-054 directs to lube the bolts with clean Lubricating oil and tighten to Torque Plus Angle.

Any bolt or nut must be clean and dry before you apply threadlocker.

And a correction on my previous post. Permatex Threadlocker RED will release at 450 degrees
