Hi guys,
I'm brand new to the 4BT swap issue and am considering one into a Dakota. I've got a question about the top speed posts I've been reading. Is the "power band" narrow limiting top speed on these? If it is, how can we open or extend it without hurting the reliability?
Thanks,
Jim

Go here:

and plug in 3200 max rpm if you are putting in the 336 spring in or use your standard 2500 rpm and play with tire sizes, tranny ratios and ring/pinion changes to get the road speed and RPMs you want. Move your cursor on to the graph and you will see the applet change the readings as you scan along the MPH and RPM axis. There's always a way to work it out.

I run a 4Bt in a 2.61 ton Dodge with 4.1 gears and NV4500, with 27% o'drive. Has plenty of power throughout the gears and easy cruising at freeway speeds and above. As mentioned: GEARS and if possible: Overdrive.

Also, the 4BT was used in stepvans with a 17,000 lbs GVWR and managed just fine on the highways.
