I just bought a 4X2 Ford ZF S542 5 speed tranny that should bolt right up to my 4BT out of a bread van with the Ford bellhousing. The only thing missing is the shift lever and knob.
Does anyone know a source for these other than brand new from the dealer?
I have tried a few places like transmission exchange...nada.
Thanks
For my Tremec I got a shifter lever from a company called Long.
They are available from most of the hot rod and high performance type stores type stores.
Otherwise junkyard.
I just fabricated my own. A little 1/2" cold roll, welded a plate on the bottom to bolt to the stub out of the tranny, weld on threads at the top, some finish sanding, a little paint, voila! A shifter that is the perfect length and is bent just right for my truck.

It's pretty easy to straighten out any old 435/t18/t19 stick and use it on whatever you want. The ZF's are easy with thier 2 bolt setup. When I put a 5 or 6 speed in any old truck I always do it this way regardless of whether I have the right stick or not. The old skinny stick looks right to me and the factory shifter boot fits right.
I have an extra one off a 97 ZF5 for sale--PM me for info.
