I have just picked up a 180hp dodge cummins engine so its auto 96-98. The idea was for the dodge specific bits I need for my 4bt and some spares for my 6bt. The engine was originally from a ram that had a small fire and the vehicle was dismantled for spares and while the engine was sitting in the breakers it was under water due to flooding. Looking at it now it almost seems a shame to part it as it "looks" too good. So would this require a full strip down to clean it out and the P pump sent to a specialist? The engine was totally submerged in flood water but as it wasn't in a vehicle it hasn't had someone try to start it but will be plenty of fine silt inside I'm sure. The engine was drained (not by me) and turns over with a bar. Would just turning over with a bar damage it? I suppose it will cost nothing to take the head and the sump off to have a look. I wont have time to look at it for a few weeks though possibly longer. What do you think?
