Sorry things aren't going together very smoothly.Going to get my motor started tomorrow got some new batts for her today might take it for a spin around the block with out the front clip on unless I get some help putting it on the truck..

Good luck finding the rest of your parts.

Have you found all your parts yet.

I've found them. I still don't have them yet...

That good you have found every thing.

IS there a thread related to SuperSonic's build at all. I am in the process of gathering parts for my swap and am curious what he is using to make this a go!!!

Thanks

Not that I am aware of. What do you need to know that hasn't been covered in this thread?

Chris's truck is on the cover of DeiselPower or Dieselworld one of the 2.I have the perkins fired up and wil be taking the truck for a test drive in a couple of day's.hopefully will have good news.

i am in the midst of setting up allison 6 speed behind isb 4.5 and the controller i got was from a wrecked motorhome and its a workhorse setup.

question i have is can the isb computer talk to the workhorse setup rather than have it stand completely alone.

i have tcm push button control and harness

also this application uses a shifter motor much like a t-case and has no park pawl .

i have the parts to add a pawl. but wonder if the stepper motor setups can function with a park pawl.

If you're using it in a pickup I'd install the park pawl and eliminate the push-button shifter. I prefer the tactile sensation of a manual shifter where you know it is in park.

As for the TCM, it and the ECM should use standard J1939 messaging. Make sure the CAN wires are a twisted pair, and each end of the bus is terminated with a 120 ohm resistor (if you have questions about that, please search this thread - it has been discussed). Remember that a CAN bus is a BUS, so the wires should chain between devices and/or connectors, rather than branching out like a tree. Assuming the ECM is from a road engine, I am guessing it will regularly broadcast torque info onto the CAN bus, and accept torque reduction requests as well. So, it should work, but the only way to know for sure is to try it. Assuming it works, you won't have the features of a GM setup. It will pretty much work like any medium duty truck.

I'm currently in the process of mating a Gen 4 1000 to a 4bt, the 4BT came with an SAE 3, which is what i want, and just got the SAE 3 for the front of the Allison. I was going to try to use the flywheel that came with the motor (it was an irrigation unit), but have a 1+1/4 inch gap between the bell housing faces.

So I'm looking for a flex plate, and I don't recall seeing it anywhere on this sticky, but in a few other places on the forum, and on a couple others rumors have it the flex plate for an AT545 SAE 3 will work for the 1000 as well. Anyone know if this is true?

Btw, good job on this thread! :)

You need 4 parts: flexplate, drive ring (connects the flexplate to the converter), hub (locates the flexplate and the converter hub), and the piece that goes under the bolt heads (no idea what it is called - it's a round spamped piece with 8 holes in it) to prevent the bolt heads from digging in to the flexplate and propagating a crack. AT545 parts will work fine.

Ive always liked the allison's. I think the diesel NPR I used to drive had the allison, it sure held up to the hard mountain service life in a 12k box truck. I will be watching this thread close....a stout auto would be nice in the truck someday...

Two minor problems: The harness pictured has ends in it for a Gen 3 (5 speed) TCM, not a Gen 4. A Gen 3 computer, even one modified for 6 speed use like the one Destroked sells in their conversion kit, will NOT work with a Gen 4 valve body. Second, the "Item Description" box lists the condition as "new", whereas the harness shown is clearly a used, reworked stock harness. He also says nothing about a TCM to use with this harness.

So, one of three possibilities: 1) He is actually selling newly made Gen 4 stand-alone harnesses, but put up a pic of a used, reworked Gen 3 harness. He also says nothing about how you give this thing throttle inputs....

2) He's a moron who doesn't know what he's selling (but it says "10 available").

3) He's a liar.

Heck, for $500 (maybe - parts have gone up) I could build you a brand spanky new harness with brand spanky new connectors, terminals, and Tefzel-insulated tin-plated wire, ready to plug in a reprogrammed 8.1 TCM and Cat TPS. I know this because I already built a pair :D So, charging premo prices for a reworked used Gen 3 harness is pretty shady, which makes me lean toward #3 above...

O.k what about bolting the alision 1000 to an Isuzu 6bd1t? I have just pought one that is bolted to 4speed in a 1979 1/2ton 4x4 short box pickup!
If the engine has an SAE #3 flywheel housing and the Ally has an SAE #3 bellhousing, then you can physically bolt them together. Mating the torque converter to the crankshaft requires the proper flexplate, hub, and drive ring, assuming it is anything like a Cummins (which it probably is). Assuming the parts exist to mate an Allison AT545 to the engine, they should work for the 1000 as well.

Max, kinda figured it was #3, with yourself and others working on this I figured if it was that easy you (or someone else on here) would have already done it.;)

That and, it's flea bay and that's my default belief with them. :D
