Yeah the Dodge boys seemed offended that I took their beloved Cummins and put it in a Ford and the Ford boys said no because it's ”heavily modified”. Ford won't even plug up to my truck for the Ford ECM, ABS, or airbags. I think that's kinda illegal.

That could be a major hang up in this build up. A used 8.1 tcm is about as hard to find as my 273-c transfer case (pass. drop divorced 273) What reasonably can to be done to make them available?
See my reply to Dale below[/quote]

Off this topic, One interesting thing Howard does do in his trans/ to transfer case conversion thats different, is his use of a 2wd transmission for his adapters, so there is no issue with the speed sensor. He then adapts the 2wd with his own adapter and shaft to a Ford or Dodge transfer case. He casts his own adapters so he can clock them anyway you want them, but he has pretty much given up on anything other then Dodge and now concentrates just on the Dodge cases for adapting so unfortunately his shafts wont work with any of 32 spline Chevy's like I hoped. I did question his use of the smaller 4 bolt pattern, 2wd rear housing mounting instead of the normal larger diameter 6 bolt pattern of a 4wd rear housing, but he says the 4wd rear housing is so weak and thin compared to the beefy 2wd rear housing, making his a stronger system,
The 06-up 4WD housings are substantially stronger than the earlier housings. A brace makes them virtually unbreakable. I see ZERO reason to stack adapters on top of adapters to get the same result as an OE housing. Not to mention his setup requires a custom shaft, which adds more money to the equation. It's a lot better to redrill a factory Ally 4WD housing to accept the Dodge case and add an output VSS to the case. There's at least one t-case rebuilder out there that mods 271/273s with a 40 spline reluctor and sensor for use in GM vehicles.

Once you have a vin,no for the 8.1 allison a dealer can flash a tcm as long as you have a OBD connector in your truck.I found some 8.1 on Ebey but they didn't have the allison in them.I got my TCM from BTdieselworks.com he can reflash your TCM for the 8.1.he has all the rite equipment.
Most dealers won't touch a truck with a conversion in it, unless you happen to be friends with a service guy. The best bet is to do like Dale and contact Ben at BT diesel. He can either re-flash your existing DMax TCM (needs to be an A40 or A46) or sell you a new one already flashed.

By the way does anyone know where I can get my rear 4wd housing "machined" to fit a speed sensor other then buying the whole destroke kit?
Put the sensor th the tailhousing of the t-case. Google Duramax NP273 swap to see how it's done.

We got the transmission to shift with out me having to let off the throttle. We copied some of the shift setting from the duramax tcm to the 8.1 tcm.I don't have lockup in 2 yet all the rest of the gears shift fairly smooth but firm.I can Cruz at 50mph in 6th .
Going to do some more testing tomorrow night fine adjustments.

You may want to have someone with a Tech II reset the taps and put the trans in fast learn mode. That will let the new TCM learn the best shifting. Also, have your EFI Live guy copy row B to row A under the 2nd gear converter lockup table.

He was going to do that this afternoon but his laptop died.We have to soften up a couple of the up shifts..

I almost forgot it still don't stay locked up when I let off throttle.

Part of that is the internal software - it is designed to "coast" like a regular sprag-coupled automatic when you let off the throttle, which gives the perception of smoother operation as well as giving better fuel economy. T/H mode keeps the converter locked under decel.

Max did you see an actual install or "how to"of the rear speed sensor in a 273 ? I searched and found a few guys talking about it on Pirate but no one who had done it, except one guy had it done by a shop. Its a great idea makes more sense then the adapter I think. I am going to call the shop the one guy used, I think it was WFO concepts or Lavender Bros. By the way I found a guy who sells TCMs on EBAY who will program his if you buy it from him for an extra $95, but he he wants $290 for the blank one, ($290 +$95) EBAY Item number is 290738189962 if anyones interested.

I just figured I would toss this out since everyone is getting the run around from dealers and what not in regards to flashing the TCM's and PCM's! If you have a VIN # I can bench flash all GM PCM's and TCM's. I have a J2534 Programmer and an account with GM TIS2WEB.
If anyone is interested, PM me!

Transmission shifting better today drove the truck around yesterday for awhile.I had to give her a bath.Drove it to work today feels smoother.hit real hard only a couple times.Going to put some more miles the next couple of days before we do any more adjusting. At wide open throttle it shifts smooth but firm through all gears.I'm very satisfied the way this swap working out.

Schwoch1 I just wanted to let you know I did get your call a while back about programming and I will use you I am just not there yet. Also if anyone needs a VIN# for a 8.1L/6 speed ally I got one, Its a 2006 4wd et cab long bed with a 8.1L/allison. Just PM me. Also the other day this product called INPOWER ETM67A electronic throttle control popped up on EBAY and I bought it. This company makes electronic throttle controls for all three brand trucks including the one I bought for 06 up gas or Diesel autmatic Gm trucks. Their mainly used for controlling PTOs. The way it works is it plugs into the CAN H and CAN L by way of the DLC plug then on their module there are adjustable POTS you use to set the desired RPM. I just thought it was interesting and may be of some bearing. Heck it only went for 13 bucks.

Just read somewhere that a guy put his 261 input shaft into 241 to go in his duramax truck after pump rub issues. also read that 261 shafts fit into certain 241 from a parts site. I ordered a 261 29 spline to see if it works of not. Dodge 29 spline seems a bit loose to my liking but does fit.

swapping input shafts

Not sure how much this has been addressed, but you can pretty much swap all of these inputs shafts into any of the transfer cases. All of the 6 pinion planetary sets are essentially the same from what I have seen. I bought an input shaft from an NP263 and put it in the planetary gear set from an 80s HMMWV NP218 to press into a doubler from DD Machine for my doubler/273 setup behind my Allison. IT is quite easy to just pop the snap ring. The input shaft comes out quite easy once you get the planetary set out. I believe there are about 11 T Cases that use this same set.

I have not tried to much swapping transfercase parts good information to know.
