OK, some of you tranny hot shots try this one on. I have gear chatter in 4th gear only, from 1300-1500 rpm. The severity of the chatter depends on the power applied, more power, more chatter. If I start out below 1300 rpm and add lots of power,or uphill pull, the tranny sounds like its going to climb out of the truck. Flat ground and easy throttle i can pull through it. When the rpm is already above 1500, I can back down to 1300-1400 rpm then hammer the throttle with no chatter at all. ZF S-5 42 tranny was supposedly rebuilt a few thousand miles before I aquired it. I know that I have some slack in the spider gear cross pin, could this be the cause or do I need to get ready to rebuild my tranny?
