S5-42 Gas Units
• Model Year 1987 - 1995
• 1992 and newer applications have the electronic speedo.
• On all 4 x 4 and Superduty applications, the speedo cable connects to either the parking brake or the transfer case.
• 1987-1991 4 x 2 applications have a 7 or 8 tooth speedo that connects via the transmission.
• 4 x 4 units are used in 4 x 2 superduty applications.
• If a 4 x 2 vehicle is equipped with electronic speedo, use O.E. speedo plug number F2UZ 7H183A.
• 1307 050 064ZW only used in UPS vehicles.
• S5-42 units are not interchangeable with S5-47 units.

I have some info regarding my GM flywheel I thought should be added to the transmission sticky.

My Cummins reman flywheel specs are as follows;

Casting number 3906802- according to Scott this # does not exist. Written in two places in paint marker is the #3906803- Scott says this is superseded by 3913056 which is what my Cummins dealer said this flywheel is.
Ring gear has 146 teeth
Diameter 14.75-including the ring gear.
thickness 1.973 measured next to the ring gear. The crank mount flange would add about another 1/8" to the overall thickness.
Clutch bolt pattern is a symmetrical 6 bolt pattern.

Here are the bolt pattern dimensions for the 12V/early 24V Cummins block face:



The above dimensions are in inches - multiply by 25.4 to get the dimensions in millimeters.

Flywheel Housing Adaptor Design Criteria

Cummins B Series FHZ Bolt Pattern.jpg
Digitized with a Romer arm. Looked for design intent. Built Solidworks Models based on intent. The B-Series Cummins is a METRIC engine. Working on pattern design for casting FHZ to adapt Cummins B to Ford ZF using Ford or Dodge starter. The pictured design is the base for any adaptation desired.

Thanks for this thread and all the great info. Any chance someone has the bolt pattern measurements for a common rail cummins? I may design my own ZF6 adapter plate for my project and having the correct measurements would be a huge help.

I originally placed this in the roadranger thread, thought it may be of interest for those with Landcruisers/Nissans and smaller Jap trucks.
They are in Australia and shipping will not be the cheapest but they may have that odd adaptor someone requires.

Since the converted bread van supply is seeming to diminish and more of the box vans that were factory fitted with 4BTs are hitting the market, and have SAE adapters, I thought I'd post up the actual dimensions. This can be helpful to ID as well as build adapters for these Engine plates and flywheels. I would have hit up a mod about putting this into the Stickys but........I'd just as soon not hide info in those indecipherable quagmires.:rolleyes:
