I am not going to let the cat out of the bag just yet, but Love-Horsepower and I are working on an all new way to fix the problem of getting a Domestic tranny hooked up to your favorite (4BD) Diesel engine. If all goes well then you will be able to bolt up Chevy, Ford or Dodge manual or Auto trannys with just the purchase of a new flywheel housing for the back of the engine. This will be a replacement for the factory Isuzu flywheel housing, so no adapters or dual flywheels or any of that stuff. We are going to be working on this over the winter. So, stay tuned and I will let you guys know when they are ready for production. Pray that all goes well and we should be ready to try the first prototypes by the first of the yr.bounce

Ok, for you Ford guys, I got a nice piece from Roostre last week and it looks like it might work out just fine for the BB Ford guys.

These are just mockups but it gives you a good Idea of what I have going so far.

I am still waiting for my pattern to be milled but for the price I can't get in a real big rush. I hope to see a test part made from foam by the end of this week. If it all looks good then the pattern should be ready for the first test castings in a few weeks.

Well, 2 of the holes are really close left to right but I think that they come out some where in between vertically. I will have to have a transmission to find the center line and then locate the adapter to center on the C/L of the crank. As for the starter it is going to be really close to the engine block and the oil filter will have to be relocated with this adapter as well. Looks like it is time to start making oil filter relocation kits as well.

Still following the thread! I WILL be buying one of these, Lord Willing, soon after you put them into production. Most likely the GM Unit.

So a couple of questions for clarification. At this point, one has to mount the 4BD with a slight tilt for everything else to be level with the current GM bellhousing/adapter? Anymore news on the gear reduction starter and how that would affect that? Also, at this point- and probably regardless of starter- one DOES need to re-locate the Oil filter correct?

Thanks for working on this! For the FJ40 LandCruiser crowd, This might make this a MUCH easier conversion because at this point, the starter being on the left side of the Isuzu engine, has created some fitment issues. With the GM bellhousing mounting the starter on the right, that should take care of that! bounce

I know everyone is waiting to see how it is coming along. As usual with projects like this, I have had a few problems to overcome. The largest problem is that the casting Company in Va. that I had been dealing with has not been real helpful and has cause several delays and wasted a few Hundred dollars of mine by not giving me all the info that I needed to get this finished. I am meeting with another casting company that is a bit more local (at least they are in the same state) this afternoon. I have the CNC mill standing by and ready start milling parts ASAP.

Now for a few Pics

Moving along in the right direction, just slower that I would like.

As for the questions about the Ford version, if the zf5 that you have is a BB Ford pattern then it looks like the one in post #61. As soon as I get the Dodge one finished I will get back to the Ford and GM adapters.

By the way I am also talking with a well known Clutch company about making Flywheels for the Isuzu 4BD engines. So, I have been busy with lots of items to get us all driving Diesels even if the Big auto companys are unwilling to do it. LOL

Ready for casting

Well, I forgot to get any pics before I dropped off the pattern today at the casting company. They said I should have the first test parts by next week. So, for everyone that has been waiting for a Dodge adapter, it looks like they will be ready very soon. I hope to have the first units back from the machine shop by the first of June. Once I have these first ones test fitted I will be taking orders and shipping them out ASAP.

I know everyone has been waiting for the pricing of these New Adapters, so after everything has been figured it looks like the final cost is going to be about $900 for the cast Adapter.

A new Nippon Denso starter for $300. You can use a starter from a Dodge Diesel if you want to buy it locally.

I hope to have OEM replacement flywheels available sometime in July.

For the first 10 payed orders for the adapters, I will include $100 off and Free shipping.:)

I hope to have the first 2 test parts back from casting next Mon. Then if all goes well the machine shop that I had as a back up will be able to get them machined and ready for install in 2 weeks. My first choice for machining our parts had a major brake down on their CNC mill. Good thing a had a plan, let's see is this "H" or "I". Lol. I have had so many set backs I have lost count.

For those of you that have ask. The housing is the same for manual as for automatic. The only difference will be the flywheel.

It looks like the production time is going to be pretty quick from the time I order castings until I have a finished parts, about 3 weeks.

SO, I am going to start taking orders. The first two units will be shipped out as soon as I have them back from the machine shop.

It looks like everything worked out so that the Isuzu starter can be used with the OEM Isuzu flywheel and clutch assy. I will also be making a small spacer that will allow you to use a Dodge/ Nippon Denso starter if you need a little more room or don't have an Isuzu starter. Also, we are going to be able to drill the starter mount for multi clocking positions.

I have to do just a little work to them where they meet the oil pan needs just a little more clearance, I will have that added to the CNC program, then we should be ready to sell them.

It looks like the New Dodge castings will be ready to sell by July. I am taking orders now, who is ready to be the first guinea pig. LOL

I will be installing a 4bd into a 97 Dodge 2500 in the next few week. Pic to follow soon.

Timo,
I am on hold with the Ford adapter until the Dodge unit is in production. Sorry, but I have too many things going and need to get this one done first. I hope to get more done on the Ford unit by end of July/ Aug.
