The same chassis is used in the prado with the 3 litre 1kd ftv diesel outside the USA. I have no idea why Toyota didn't give the fj cruiser a diesel option.

No way! Almost everyone loves a retro BJ. HA HA! All kidding aside, my favorite cruiser of all time is the bj70 (of course not available in US).

 

Yeah, they just don't make BJ's like they used to, ask Bill Clinton.

 

I was thinking this would be a cool swap. I'm not sure what the driveline options for this swap would be though.

 

The 1KD-FTV has a 6sp manual option. I'm not sure what reduction you get in the attached transfer-case.

I checked out that one on utube from diesel toys. $25K not including the FJ! They use the Toyota 1KD-FTV. Now to figure out how to get my hands on one of those engines and pick up a used FJ with a manual tranny. They do the conversion on the 2006-present FJ. I guess unless I'm planning on huge mileage would be much better off dollar wise just to go with the gasser. Not as much fun though.. I read where Toyota is planning on a diesel in their Tundra so maybe there is a diesel FJ in the near future.
