I think that will be a M5odR1 they came in rangers with the V6 the M5odR2 only came behind the 300-6 302-8 and 351-8. in F150's and Broncos
A 2wd M5odR2 can be made in to a 4x4 by changing the tail housing out the shaft is the same.

Not the same bell housing.

Nope.

This thread has striated so far from the original title, you might consider starting a new thread with what you want to accomplish

I'm not of any authority here, just might get better results.

Strong enough for a 4BT?
Not even strong enough for the Ford 4.0V6 gasser!

A good rule of thumb is to stick with fullsize truck or at least V8 components for the 3.9 Cummins. The Jeep AX15 from the tq happy 4.0 I6 is the smallest I've heard of anyone using with success, and I don't even recommend them to folks. That NV3500 or the 3550, M5R2 are the lightest easily available/ adaptable American 5 speed ODs I recommend to anyone. If you were already starting with a Jeep AX15 I may say you could "try it", but if already having to do the work to swap in a tranny...go with something more likely to survive long term. I've seen the Toyota pickup 5 speeds last incredibly well behind V8s with big tires for such small units so I'm a big proponent of using them with the 3.3L 4BT and smaller engines.

I have a line on a G360 that is rebuilt and sitting at a local transmission shop. $1050 Seems like that is what they go for on ebay rebuilt, so I might at least be in the right neighborhood. I might sneak by there today and have a look. I don't know what all it comes with, but I certainly like the fact that it originally lived behind a 6BT. I definitely don't want to get to the point to where I want to squeeze more power out of my motor only to crater my trans. I'm also waiting to hear back about a $200 NV4500 core.

I would get a Dodge 4x4 NV4500 and a Jeep Dana 300 behind it, plenty of Jeep Dana 300's out there... That's what I did after my IH t19 wasnt doing it on the highway behind the Cummins 6AT. Now I am sooo happy for the OD.

Wow. That's really close to what I was thinking. What gears are you running? Got any pics?

SK you should do a build thread we don't have near enough of the old A series engine builds. I'd think that 6AT would be ideal for the smaller builds so many of us are doing.

In addition to the gearing that CLH asked about, what kind of rpms does that thing turn and what rpms are you getting at cruise?

I am runing 3.74 gears with 33" Cooper AT's and I cruise at around 1900 at 65mph. I will see if I can take some pics of my set up.
