According the Mitchell manual...

"Heaters do not operate during cranking, as each heater draws about 95amps."

 

geez that is a ton. i hope my solenoid will be able to handle that without melting the thing down and creating an explosion

 

Use a starter solenoid ,only take about 10-15 sec when it's cold out .

i started thinking though that the solenoid on there will be able to handle it because the wire on it was the same size and on my 6.2( i dont know if it is different from any other) it had these 2 huge electrical grids which i imagine would draw the same amount of juice. it was like 3 times the size of the one on the cummins. thanks for replies

I think the 2 grids you are talking about are the resistors on the firewall? These were for voltage reduction, in the 24v system.

 

Going by the wire size that was connected to the solenoid is not a wise move. The wire is usually over engineered for safety and reliability. If you are so concerned over it causing a fire. Just buy a solenoid rated for the application!
