Ok i have a 1st gen cummins with 2wd overdrive auto trans that i am swaping into a 89 2wd crewcab dually old square body. The truck is going to bagged with 22 inch alcoas. The truck is gonna be my everyday driver so i want it to be able to get in and go with no problems and be dependable. Any advise or tips about the swap would be greatly appriciated... Building the truck to haul one or somtime two car hauler..so im wanting good hp and mpg...

The motor has 300k...should i rebuild it before i do the swap?...doesnt leak oil or anything. Truck was running when pulled..

Any advise will help... I know its a broad thread...dont know much about diesel or the swap thanks for the help.....

I have a '93 6bt in a '80 chev cc dually. I used the 93 auto tranny and it buildt up heat because of the non-lockup TC. so I rebuilt a 47RH out of a 3/4 ton 10cyl gas rig, and I had a dual disk TC built for it. If I had it to do over again I would have stayed with a TC that still has the damper springs in the LU clutch as it doesn't build the heat that the 46RH does. The 47RH also gets better mileage.

300k is nothing, just check the blowby and fix the oil leaks .. ohh and make a tab for the dowl pin... when you have the front cover off putting seals in it... about the only thing that goes bad on the cummins is the water pump (160$) and in your case the injection pump every 250k or so with the new fuels we have... good luck my 93 dodge is one of the best trucks I have ever had starts no matter how long it has sat and pulls anything... good luck...
