Isuzu NPR rim swapping

I thought this might be a good spot for info since there seem to be guys still using these motors in the original NPR bodies. The older NPR's had 15.5" rims and those tires are the hardest to even find any. I have heard stories of having to change the whole rearend just to use the newer 16" wheels. Because of hub centric rims. Has anyone just plain swapped the newer 16" rims onto the older NPR? Thanks!

I have an 89 NPR badged as a Chevrolet 40 Tiltmaster and it has 17.5 inch rims . I've never seen one with 15.5 rims, how old of a truck are you talking about? Likewise I never paid enough attention to the newer NPR's so I didn't know they had 16's on them.

17.5's aren't to hard to find but I always thought that someday I'd check to see if 19.5 rims would fit, do to their use on a lot of RV's I figured that the choice of rubber would be greater.

The earlier NPR's had 5-bolt rims whereas the newer ones went to 6-bolts. I have trucks with both but all are 16" rims although my 5-bolt rims are the split rim type. A friend of mine has some newer Mitsubishi box truck and they have 5-bolt conventional (non-split) 16" rims that look like they could interchange with my older NPR. I haven't actually tried it.

I have a 1990 Isuzu NPR with Sumitomo 8R 17.5 and the rear has 15.5 with Yokohamas. I cant get the 15.5 tires anywhere. I found 9R 17.5 for the front. Got pulled over by the State Police and he said the rear wheels are too small, explained that the 15.5's were originally. Didn't believe it,. I want to see if I can switch to 16.5 which are used for the Ford Motorhomes on the E-450 Van Chassis. Does anyone know if the rims can be switched?

I dealt with this just the other day. I took the rear axle out from under my 4bd donor truck to take some parts off for another project.
My truck had 16” split ring tube type wheels with “budd” style stud pilot mounting. In other words, it had inner and outer nuts holding the wheels on, only they were a smaller size that standard budd wheels. First time I’ve ever seen that exact setup on 16” wheels.

15" must have been the FL (flat low) models for rear wheels only. I've seen a few but never paid attention to the tyre size.
The 1985 NPR I'm most familiar with had 16" split rims with 5 bolts. Fronts were normal conical nuts but left hand thread on left hand side. Rears were duals with the stud screwing in to hold the inner wheel and the nut holding on the outer.

Here are all the tyre sizes in the 1985 Owners Manual:
